Barcelona, Spain – 22nd October 2026 — Methinks, an innovative medical AI company behind FDA-cleared and CE-marked stroke detection and triage software, today announced that its Methinks Ischemia product has received CE marking. The module measures and visually highlights suspected ischemic changes directly from a non-contrast CT (NCCT) scan, without requiring CT angiography, CT perfusion, or MRI.
Methinks Ischemia analyses non-contrast imaging showing suspicious for acute ischemic infarct and estimating the ischemic tissue visible in the plain CT scan already taken in nearly every stroke work-up. Making this information available sooner can help physicians assess and select stroke patients for endovascular thrombectomy and/or intravenous thrombolysis, as part of the broader clinical decision-making process.
This is especially valuable in centers without CT perfusion (CTP), where quantitative ischemic tissue information might otherwise only become available after a transfer to a thrombectomy-capable center, or not at all. Even where CTP is available, the product can deliver this information earlier than the CTP acquisition and processing pathway.
It runs alongside Methinks' other CE-marked product’ modules — LVO and ICH detection on non-contrast CT, and LVO detection on contrast imaging — together enabling earlier transfer and treatment decisions.
In a peer-reviewed study conducted at the University of Iowa [1], Methinks Ischemia demonstrated comparable performance to CT perfusion in estimating ischemic core volume in patients with suspected anterior circulation stroke, with particularly strong performance beyond the 6-hour window. The research was independently conducted and supported by an investigator-initiated grant.
"Receiving CE marking for Methinks Ischemia is an important milestone," said Cristian Martí, Founder of Methinks. "It brings ischemic volume information, once reserved for perfusion imaging, to any hospital with a plain CT scanner to aid in the selection for endovascular thrombectomy and/or intravenous thrombolysis.”
"By measuring ischemic volume directly from non-contrast CT, we can give physicians information to help them assess stroke patients quicker without contrast or advanced imaging. This will be critical in small hospitals without CT perfusion capabilities and, potentially, in helping to extend the time window for Mechanical thrombectomy, which is exactly what we're evaluating in the DONE SYMPLE trial. ," said Dr. Santiago Ortega-Gutierrez, MD, MSc, FSVIN, FAHA, Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiology at the University of Iowa and Global Principal Investigator of the DONE SYMPLE trial.
Founded in 2016, Methinks AI is a venture‑backed, commercial‑stage digital health company specializing in AI‑powered imaging assessment solutions for neurovascular emergencies. The company’s mission is to enable universal and timely access to medical care through advanced, accessible technology. Methinks AI is the first company to obtain CE marking for AI‑based large vessel occlusion (LVO) assessment support using non‑contrast CT, contributing to the advancement of early stroke care worldwide.
